Head of Financial Inclusion and Agritech

The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced, passionate, and driven  Head of Financial Inclusion & AgriTech to lead both our AgriTech and Mobile Money programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategy development and execution, team leadership and overall management and delivery of the two programmes, across a set of different donors (currently including FCDO, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and DFAT).
Mobile for Development (M4D) is a dedicated global team within our client bringing together our mobile operator members, tech innovators, the development community, and governments to prove the power of mobile in emerging markets. We identify opportunities and deliver innovations with partners; our projects have impacted 93 million citizens across 50+ countries to date.
M4D’s Agritech programme is a four-year initiative (2019-2023) supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). It also receives funding from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The programme brings together and supports the mobile industry, agricultural sector stakeholders, innovators and investors in AgriTech space to improve knowledge and access to agricultural technologies, financial inclusion and finance crowding into the sector – to ultimately improve smallholders’ livelihoods, including (climate) resilience.
M4D’s Mobile Money programme is a three-year initiative (2019-2022) supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The programme works with mobile operators and industry stakeholders to create a robust mobile money ecosystem, which will increase the relevancy and utility of these services, and will impact these two billion people who are unbanked, without access to safe, secure and affordable financial services
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership of the AgriTech & Mobile Money programmes to deliver programme KPIs and meet donor commitments:
Overall accountability for setting and delivering the vision and strategy of the two programmes in line with existing donors and the business commitments, and respecting the specificity of each programme
Ensure that the AgriTech and Mobile Money programmes are meeting or exceeding their KPIs and programme deliverables, as set in the donors’ logframes/result frameworks
Effectively address and resolve any risks or issues hindering the ability of the programmes to achieve its goals
Develop the strategy for the evolution of the two programmes, secure approval both internally and externally, fundraise to support the strategy where relevant, and operationalise the strategy once funded
Ensure visibility and buy-in of programme strategy and impact with the business Senior Leadership 
Accountability for the programmes’ delivery both internally and externally:
Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to donors, M4D and business leadership to capture programme progress and escalate and address any risks/challenges.
Cultivate a culture of efficiency and value for money, managing the programmatic budget and meeting financial targets.
Proactively and productively work with internal partners to ensure that all compliance requirements are met 
Partnerships and representation with internal / external partners
Build trusted relationships with the donors and partners of the programmes
Inspire and influence key programme stakeholders and partners from the mobile industry, agritech, and financial inclusion sectors at large to support the programmes’ visions and missions
Cultivate new funding opportunities to support or expand activities where required
Lead strategy for and represent the programme on the business and external platforms, ensuring key programme messages are effectively communicated across multiple audiences 
Work with External Affairs team, Industry Purpose, and wider M4D/Advocacy teams to set agenda for the contribution of the programme to broader business presence on external platforms to advance programmes goals 
Leadership and team management
Be a role model and provide strong leadership to the team, aligned with our clients values.
Lead a large and high-performance team: ensuring and maintaining a strong team ethos, clarity in roles and responsibilities, alignment on strategy and programme priorities and awareness of KPIs and deliverables
Empower and support Director-level team members to provide continuity, consistency and transparency across workstreams and maintain a cohesive and strong senior leadership unit  
Proactively work with the Head of Mobile for Development and department leadership to ensure operational excellence and alignment to business and M4D strategy
Work closely with other M4D programmes where existing areas for synergies have been identified; regularly review potential for collaboration with the whole M4D portfolio.
Maintain a culture of collaboration within the programmes, and with the rest of the organisation to increase shared learning, create opportunities, maximise impact and increase value for money for our donor partners.
Make sure the messaging around agritech and financial inclusion is aligned with and fits into the broader M4D and business messaging. 
Strong AgriTech and Financial Inclusion experience required.
Solid familiarity with the Mobile Money and Agri industries, including an active interest in the potential of financial inclusion and AgriTech services (including use cases such as digital procurement, e-commerce or smart farming) to contribute positively to local societies and economies in low- and middle-income countries and improve the life of local populations.
An understanding of – and a strong interest in - climate smart agriculture.
Proven track record in leading and developing large, diverse, geographically distributed and multi-disciplinary teams
Experience working with donors, international development community is a must-have for the role
Experience managing complex multi-stakeholder relationships and delivering multi-stakeholder projects, including mobile operator C-level executives
Substantial experience including team and stakeholder management in progressive roles   
Solid commercial acumen with an ability to clearly communicate strategic opportunities and compel action
Able to quickly grasp new concepts and ideas and proactively communicate and work as part of a global team.
Naturally curious, able to think beyond business-as-usual scenarios and dream big.
Process-oriented individual, that takes ownership and responsibly without unnecessary management from above
Excellent team-work abilities with a tested collaborative mindset
Excellent communicator: able to express complex technical or commercial issues in plain language, without losing the important points
Fluent and compelling written and oral communications skills in English.
