Strategic Relationship Manager

Responsibilities:
 
It is expected that in discharging the accountabilities described below the post holder will consult with and gain the support of the key stakeholders, in particular Head of Business Development, Senior Strategic Relationship Manager and relevant members of the Consumer Finance Senior Management Team. 
 
In carrying out the responsibilities of the role, the post holder will work with (or have significant contact with) the Business Development team, Department Managers across the business including but not limited to Finance, Risk, Customer Service, Marketing, I.T.
 
The post holder is directly accountable for the following outputs:
 
Strategy and Planning
 
  • Developing and managing to a credit strategy within assigned account portfolio
  • Proactively managing the profit and loss account for each retailer within assigned account portfolio
  • Automation of processes within allocated accounts to improve efficiencies and reduce costs i.e. CM2, PBF, API Integration, Automated Settlement, E-signature, Amend Loan etc
 
Account Retention & Development
 
  • Working with the Consumer Finance Senior Management Team to ensure the operational platform and structure is in place to support any new and existing clients i.e. resource planning underwriting / operations
  • Automation of processes within allocated accounts to improve efficiencies and reduce costs i.e. CM2, PBF, API Integration, Automated Settlement, E-signature, Amend Loan etc
  • Securing long term contracts (where appropriate)
  • Communicating and liaising with key external business contacts, effectively representing the company’s interests, in order to optimise business performance
  • Managing individual and allocated team account portfolios within approved operating parameters and agreed Supplier Agreement / Supplier Operating Instructions
  • Developing and managing to a credit strategy within assigned individual and allocated team account portfolios
  • Creating “Shopping Lists” for individual and allocated team accounts to ensure we know the company & clients currencies to trade / negotiate
  • Working with the Risk team to monitor financial health and exposures of the retailers within individual and allocated team account portfolios
  • Proactively managing the profit and loss account for each retailer within individual and allocated team account portfolios.

Financial Management 
 
  • Shared P&L responsibility with the company’s management team for the development and achievement of appropriate key performance indicators and financial ratios  
  • Shared responsibility for ensuring department operates within agreed budgets and achieves financial targets
  • Cross-checking integrity of financial information provided to SMT and Head of Department to ensure management systems are robust and defensible
  • Ensure department maintains adequate accounting and other records of activities, maintains adequate and compliant systems of controls and provides meaningful management information to SMT and the Board
 
Divisional Management Duties
 
  • Working with the Senior Team to develop new opportunities and assist other areas of the division as needed to ensure the divisional plans are achieved
  • Delivering of projects as appropriate and sign off of relevant testing prior to release. Ensure that new retailers or sectors are integrated smoothly with no adverse impact on performance
  • In conjunction with the Senior Management Team, constructively challenge and contribute to the development of the company strategy
  • Ensure that all decisions taken by the Senior Management Team are effectively communicated and implemented and that regular reviews on progress against functional objectives and plans are provided to the Senior Management Team and/or BPRM meetings
  • Communicating and liaising with key external business contacts, effectively representing the company interests, in order to optimise business performance

Risk
 
  • Identify and evaluate risks within area of responsibility (including errors, fraud and inappropriate procedures) ensuring sufficient business controls are in place to minimise exposure to risk
  • Take appropriate measures to manage these, recognising your individual responsibility and accountability for risk in relation to your role and follow effective best practice processes
  • Establish and maintain entries within the departmental risk register
 
Compliance
 
  • Responsible for ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to protect customer and retailer confidentiality whilst also protecting company and commercially sensitive information especially in relation to potential fraud and in the storage and disposal of confidential customer information in the correct manner
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and specifically that which relates to Data Protection, Money Laundering, Health and Safety, Bribery Act and Treating the Customer Fairly (‘TCF’) and attend update training as may be required from time to time
  • Ensure compliance with SOx requirements by ensuring ongoing compliance with the following objectives:
    • controls in their processes are effective to manage risks (in conjunction with Financial Control)
    • processes are operating as mapped
    • departmental staff are aware of their responsibilities and operate in line with the Group standard
    • provide assistance to financial control in the performing of any testing
    • exceptions are noted and appropriate remedial action taken
    • any changes to process/systems have been approved in line with Group policy/procedure

The Candidate
 
A financial services background is not essential however the individual should have experience in business to business relationship management, and possess the following skills:
 
Relevant Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Negotiation skills
  • Project management
  • High level of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Understanding of financial modelling
  • Ability to show a thorough understanding of sales and marketing
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Numerate i.e. ability to understand and interoperate data – minimum GCSE Maths
  • Time management skills plus ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Target driven – sales experience
  • Negotiating Skills
  • Strong commercial acumen – ability to read and interpret company accounts
