Pascal J. Guignard

Since August 2013, Pascal is the President of Thurgovia (UK) Limited & Thurgovia (France) SA, two international business consultancy firms.

Over a period of 35 years, Pascal has accumulated a substantial international professional experience first in the global hospitality Industry where he worked for the InterContinental Hotel Groups across Europe and Africa in various accounting and management roles, and secondly, with American Express. During a career spanning 25 years at the financial services giant, he gained a profound understanding of the Card Payment industry and managed businesses, teams and projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

After occupying several roles in sales, marketing and communication roles for the international merchant division, his last 13 years at AXP were spent with the Global Network Services Group where he was the Vice President and General Manager, New Business Development for the EMEA Region. In his role, he had the oversight to franchise the AXP brand to retail banks, merchant acquirers and financial institutions for the purpose of issuing and acquiring activities, to sell and dispose of company assets as well as to manage the card acceptance commercial relationship with 70 airlines carriers across 52 countries. Pascal negotiated, opened and launched 24 new mostly emerging markets (and 28 partnerships) for AXP as well as working very closely with local authorities and regulators to ensure adequate compliance across numerous geographies. In addition, and during 2012 & 2013, he supported the efforts of Loyalty Partners Gmbh, the leading loyalty experts company owned by American Express, to set up merchant coalition programs in key European markets. He also served for 2 years as a Member of the Executive Board of Swisscard AECS AG, a joint venture between Crédit Suisse and AXP operating in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

In November 2014, he was appointed the Chairman of the International Card and Payment Council, a leading industry think-tank based in London of which he had been a board advisor for 10 years.

In addition to his current consulting activities in the Private Banking, Commercial and Consumer Credit sectors, Pascal serves as Head of the Advisory Board of Rugby Division SA, a France based disruptive leisurewear company and of CaSar Ltd, a Singapore based provider of financial risk evaluation solutions.

Pascal graduated from the Lycée Technique Hotelier Jean Drouant in Paris (France), Cornell University (NY, USA) and IESE, Madrid (Spain). He also completed the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma Course and he is a visiting lecturer of the International Academy of Cards & Payments (London).

He is a French / British dual national, fluent (oral & written) in French, English and German as well as conversational in Italian and Spanish.

Barry Rowe

A retailer and acquiring specialist has 20+ years experience in the payment cards business, spanning cards payments, ATM’s, Terminal and PSP’s, Wallets and Alternative payments.

He started his Card career with Barclaycard Merchant Services in the UK, being brought in from their Corporate bank to help create their Risk Management function. He went onto a Senior marketing role managing Pricing, MI, Market Research & Competitor Intelligence.

Barry then joined American Express where he undertook a number of sales and business development roles, culminating in managing their European Strategic Alliances business, including their International ATM relationships. He also introduced a number of new products into their business, such as Affiliate marketing.

Since becoming a payment card consultant he has worked on a range of assignments focussing on market and sectoral analysis leading to new product entry. In particular a card based loyalty scheme in the UK (Barclaycard Freedom) and a digital wallet service in the UK & Spain. During the last three years he has worked closely with Visa in the Spanish market to launch into the market.
